January 23, 2024

Last weekend, January 19-21st, the Forge Fencing Team traveled to the 2024 Fairfax Challenge RYC/RJCC/ROC in Fredericksburg, VA. Forge fencers represented in all three weapons, many competing in multiple events and days. A total of 19 Forge fencers competed in 35 events!

There were many notable results:

  • Tyson Deck--SILVER CDT MS,  5th Div2 MS, 8th Div1A MS
  • Lauren Dunseath--7th Vet WE
  • Cadel Henry--GOLD Y12 MS
  • Marlee Johnson-- 6th Y12 WS
  • Emma Ming-- BRONZE Y12 WS
  • Annette Moore -- 8th Vet WF
  • Elina Wunnava--5th Div II WS
  • Ellora Wunnava--BRONZE Div II WS, 7th JRWS
  • Nora Xie -- 5th JRWS

We also want to recognize achievements beyond the medal stand. Y12 saberist Marlee Johnson competed in their first regional tournament (and then went on to earn a medal). Cadet saberist Ned Eyster reached his first Regional Top 16. Solomon Slep swept his pool in Cadet Men's Saber. Foilist Vicky Zhang and saberist Malina Coovadia competed in three events each, and both achieved Top 16 results. Saberist Tyson Deck (#FlyTy) not only competed in three events, but also medalled in all three -- while maintaining model-worthy and team leadership composure. Y12 saberist Cadel Henry won his second regional GOLD of the season! Finally, Junior saberist Ellora (Doya) Wunnava renewed her rating to "E24" while Veteran foilist Annette Moore earned her first rating ("E24").

Cheers as well to the Forge Veterans! Coach Polo Mueller (Vet WE) and Donn Mueller (Vet MF) each qualified to compete at Summer Nationals in their respective events. Lauren Dunseath (Vet WE) and Annette Moore (Vet WF) -- both of whom had competed at the January NAC in San Jose, CA just two weeks ago -- saw themselves on the medal stand.

And shout out to the rest of the Forge crew:  Franklin Chou (Y12MS), Evan Fruth (CDTMS, JRMS), Solomon Slep (CDTMS, JRMS), & Coach Tyler -- and to our Forge Families for their continued support and photography skills. For complete team results, look here.

We're looking forward to seeing many of the Forge Travel Team at their upcoming events -- National Junior Olympics, the March NAC and March SJCC, and the April NAC!
