Congratulations to the five athletes representing North Carolina and FORGE in the Junior Olympic Championships in Denver, Colorado, February 17-20, 2023. More information about the tournament, including live weekend results, can be found at this link.
Leading the team is Senior Matthew CHAVES who attends Durham Academy. Matthew will be attending Brandies University in the fall of 2023. He is currently ranked 122 on the Junior National Points list and 2nd in Region 6 saber, and is an active Region 6 referee.

Senior Phoebe TODD attends Riverside High School and is an active Teen Leader providing encouragement, support, and mentorship to her developing peers. She will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in fall of 2023. Phoebe is currently ranked 12th in Region 6 women’s saber.

Junior Justin MOL attends Carrboro High School and as a Teen Leader instructs his high school fencing team after school. This is Justin’s first Junior Olympic Championships. Justin is currently ranked 9th in Juniors for Region 6 saber.

Sophomore Tyson DECK attends J. D. Clement Early College in Durham, NC. This is Tyson’s first Junior Olympic Championships. Tyson is ranked 5th in Cadets and 4th in Juniors for Region 6 Saber and his developing his Teen Leadership skills as a referee in training.

Nora XIE is from Morrisville, NC and will be entering high school in fall of 2023. This is her first Junior Olympic Championships. Nora is currently ranked 2nd in Region 6 for Junior Women. She is often found cheering for her teammates, and other North Carolina saber fencers in Region 6, while focusing on her own competitive success.
