Coach Jeff Kallio is forming a coach education study group for fencing coaches in NC, and surrounding states. Goals include: obtaining the basic certification with the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA), improving your coaching skills, and networking within Region 6 to heighten and strengthen USA Fencing in our area.

How is this going to work?

Email Jeff Kallio prior to December 1st of interest. Once our group forms, we will schedule a series of online meetings to discuss coaching pedagogy and address the needs of the group specifically. We will also schedule our in-person clinic date (early 2023) to work on our technical coaching skills, and certification exams for those ready.

Who should join?

Any full-time or part-time fencing coach or athlete looking to develop a better understanding of developing as a coach.

The goal is to create a study group of like-minded individuals who are interested in a collaborative and exploratory approach to coaching. The focus of this study group will be on fundamental coaching skills, fencing theory, tactical/technical development, and terminology. Coaches will work towards passing both the written and practical exams at the USFCA’s ‘Moniteur’ level at a minimum. You can learn more about levels of certification here.

What are the requirements?

Participants must be a professional member with USA Fencing. In addition, being a current member of USFCA is strongly encouraged as it is required to access the study materials for the exams, and take the written & practical exams.
