Forge Fencing Teams is proud to host the 2024 Bull City Regional Youth and Junior Circuit event on Saturday and Sunday, September 28th & 29th, 2024. Events will feature Youth-8, Youth-10, Youth-12, and Youth-14 and Junior events in foil, epee, and saber styles of Olympic fencing. We are expecting 400 athletes with over 551 event registrations. Fencers and families from seven different states Region 6 of USA Fencing, including Forge Fencing Academy & Club in Durham, NC, will be attending – this will be an amazing event!
Forge Fencing kicked off the 2024-2025 fencing season with the 14th annual Big Blue tournament. The 2024 Forge BIG BLUE Tournament is the perennial NC fencing “season starter” competition. We came together as a community to celebrate the new season and compete for a chance to have the winner’s name added to the perpetual trophy. Historically, the “blues” honor North Carolina’s NCAA teams: Duke and UNC.
Forge Fencing was thrilled to welcome the Holderness Family into our facility to film their segment “Penn vs. Future Olympians.”
As many know, the Holderness Family are online content creators, known for their award-winning comedy sketches, original music, song parodies, and weekly podcasts. Their videos have resulted in over 2 billion views and over 9 million followers. Penn and Kim are also winners on The Amazing Race (Season 33) on CBS and New York Times Bestselling authors.
The Priority on Youth Tournament (POY) Series continues! The second event January 27th & 28th saw Forge Fencing hosting 46 athletes from 5 different clubs from across North Carolina competing in all three weapons. Forge Fencing Academy concluded its first season of the re-launched Priority on Youth Tournament Series on June 3rd and 4th. Athletes from across North Carolina came to Durham to compete in Foil, Epee, and Saber in a variety of age categories. This event was the fifth in a series of events designed to promote youth fencing development in NC. The finalé event featured 48 athletes representing 4 different clubs from across the state. Forge Fencing’s Priority on Youth Season will wrap up on June 3rd and June 4th, 2022. Young athletes from all over North Carolina have been been participating in events this season, and we have 100 athletes that have earned points onto our Priority on Youth Points list this season! Our Finalé event will include youth fencing events, a PIZZA PARTY, and Prize Table selection based on number of points earned.
Coach Jeff Kallio is forming a coach education study group for fencing coaches in NC, and surrounding states. Goals include: obtaining the basic certification with the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA), improving your coaching skills, and networking within Region 6 to heighten and strengthen USA Fencing in our area.
Now is a great time to reflect on the purpose of competition as we host our first Priority On Youth event of the season. I’d Iike to offer responses to questions parents commonly ask when considering signing their child up for their first local competition or heading out on the road to their first travel event.
Ten members of Forge Fencing are headed for Minneapolis to compete in USA Fencing’s annual National Championships, the largest fencing tournament in the world. The team has been working hard all season to prepare for this event. Our fencers have been training in Forge’s new facility for the past five months and have been making good use of the space.
