This weekend, February 14th-17th, Forge Fencing will send 28 athletes to compete in the USA Fencing National Junior Olympic Championships in Charlotte. This marks our third appearance at the event as Forge Fencing, and it will be our largest team to qualify and compete to date!

Forge Fencing Teams is proud to host the 2024 Bull City Regional Youth and Junior Circuit event on Saturday and Sunday, September 28th & 29th, 2024. Events will feature Youth-8, Youth-10, Youth-12, and Youth-14 and Junior events in foil, epee, and saber styles of Olympic fencing. We are expecting 400 athletes with over 551 event registrations. Fencers and families from seven different states Region 6 of USA Fencing, including Forge Fencing Academy & Club in Durham, NC, will be attending – this will be an amazing event!

Forge Fencing kicked off the 2024-2025 fencing season with the 14th annual Big Blue tournament. The 2024 Forge BIG BLUE Tournament is the perennial NC fencing “season starter” competition. We came together as a community to celebrate the new season and compete for a chance to have the winner’s name added to the perpetual trophy. Historically, the “blues” honor North Carolina’s NCAA teams: Duke and UNC.

In the winter of 2009, I loaded everything I owned into the back of my jeep and moved to Durham. When I arrived at Mid-South Fencers’ Club, I walked down the stairs into the small basement training space on Broad Street. I saw our Head Coach, Jennifer Oldham, giving a lesson to this little old guy over in the corner. Up until this point, I had worked almost exclusively with kids, I didn’t have any context for working with adults, let alone “senior citizens”. Later on I asked Jen what was happening. She told me Vic was diagnosed with cancer and that he was taking fencing lessons as a way to move his body, but also to test out what he could do, and how he felt. It was a way for Vic to connect his powerful mind, and his body, to try and heal.

Last weekend, January 19-21st, the Forge Fencing Team traveled to the 2024 Fairfax Challenge RYC/RJCC/ROC in Fredericksburg, VA. Forge fencers represented in all three weapons, many competing in multiple events and days. A total of 19 Forge fencers competed in 35 events!

14 Forge athletes traveled to National Harbor, Maryland over the weekend to compete in what is billed as the “World’s Largest Youth Fencing Tournament.” This was the 14th iteration of this perennial event, and the Forge Team trekked up to compete in youth foil, epeé, and saber, and in regional cadet events for epeé and saber.

The Priority on Youth Tournament (POY) Series is back! For the first event Forge Fencing hosted 43 athletes from 5 different clubs from across North Carolina. This is the longest running youth fencing tournament series in North Carolina, first launched by Mid-South Fencers’ Club in 2007 as a development path for saber fencers. POY has evolved into supporting all youth Olympic fencing weapons. The growth and development also extends to training coaches, referees, armorers, and tournament operations staff.

The event had a total of 233 foil entries, 218 epee entries, 245 saber entries and included 16 events representing all three Olympic-style fencing weapons in the categories of Y8, Y10, Y12, Y14, Cadet and Junior events.
